It's Frugal Friday!
You all know how much I heart family memberships, right? Well today I want to share a tip that will keep the fun going all summer long while saving money. Buy season passes to your closest amusement park/water park!
This year we were seriously considering purchasing a membership to our town's pool club. It was $240 for a family. Eeek. The price went up! We changed our minds when we found out the local amusement park/water park offers season passes for $49.99 per person. That is $150 for our family of three. A one day ticket costs $35. So after just two visits the passes pay for themselves.
Season passes often come with perks a-plenty! Our park offered 4 complimentary guest passes and a coupon booklet worth $300 for EACH pass purchased. We also received free tickets to a minor league baseball game.
I never thought I'd be the kind of person who would visit an amusement park often enough in one summer to warrant being a season pass holder, but upon closer inspection I realized it is a darned good deal. We now use the water park as our pool and visit 1-3 times a week.

Hi Niki!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've read The Power of a Praying Wife and am working on The Power of a Prayer Parent.
Pretty blog! I'm going to join frugal friday1 I just save $100 using the troubleshooting manual for our dryer instead of calling the repair man! Hallelujah!
I agee with the pass thing. We have one to an aquariam.
We also joined our local water park this year. It would take 5 trips to pay for the passes and we pulled that off in 2 weeks! It has been the best investment in summer I have made.
Great tip!
We found another way to stretch those dollars for family trip to NYC--how to get in the limited access CROWN of the Statue of Liberty that recently reopened on 4th of July. Check our our ZIP TIPS at http://ziptips.blogspot.com
We have a membership to our zoo and we just let our membership lapse to a local museum (although we'll probably rejoin). If you plan on visiting more than one time, the savings can really add up.
Plus, if you join a nonprofit, like a zoo, you can usually deduct the membership fee on your taxes.
Corrie, that is true. I completely forgot to mention that aspect of it.
Thanks for pointing that out.
